On Friday March 31st Alvarez hosted a blood drive in the small gym. Osman Mendoza (‘18) decided to donate blood for the first time, during his 4th block.
Mendoza wasn’t phased by the pain of a needle going inside his vein. He felt proud to be helping someone that needed blood. In the beginning of his donation, Mendoza found the process to be interesting. He said “I love the sound of blood getting taken out of my body.” But by the end, he entered a brief moment of shock. “I was tripping out to be honest” Mendoza mentioned, after he looked at the amount of blood he had donated.

Overall, Mendoza and many other Alvarez students experienced something new that day by donating blood. Many felt thrilled to be doing something good in the world.
