Ashley Hernandez (‘18) was awarded April’s Student of the Month on April 11, 2018. Ashley has worked diligently for all her four year. Finally, her work has paid off. She was nominated by her AP Literature teacher, Mr. Hedgpeth, and her AP Spanish Literature teacher, Mr. Bainbridge. During her award ceremony, they spoke fondly of her. Mr. Hedgpeth even going as far as to read a poem that expressed Ashley’s valiant efforts. “[Ashley] represents what Latinos in Salinas are working towards” Mr. Brainbridge said.
When asked about the speeches, Hernandez said, “It made me feel like I was more than just another student in their classes. It seems as though they has a better vision of my own capacity than I do. I almost cried.” She will be attending San Jose State University in the fall. She will be working on becoming a registered nurse. Her teachers and family (pictured below) have wished her continued success in her future endeavors.
