“In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity” said Ms. Gutierrez, the Everett Alvarez Intervention Specialist. Gutierrez faced a personal experience in college that inspired her to bring an impact to our school. Gutierrez strives to help students who needed additional support on recovering their academic area of need as well as attendance recovery.

The Saturday Eagle Academy brought a 90% or possibly even more to those who attended attendance percentage. “We had about 80 students who now have 85% or above from those who attended,” Gutierrez said. “That’s a huge improvement!” Ms. Gutierrez plans to have more dates, more Advanced Placement teachers, and outside partnerships that provide workshops. Although it was a struggle for Gutierrez to start this program, she is very passionate and patient for this opportunity to get support from the administration so that she can get something like this set up.
“I love working with the students and seeing the students who are responsible giving up their Saturday mornings to come out here,” Gutierrez said. “It’s inspiring and it gives me the motivation to keep going and pushing to make it grow.” With her determination, Gutierrez plans to improve it even more and help everyone who is struggling, whether it’s on attendance or academics.
